wikinomics
Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything is a book by Don Tapscott and Anthony D Williams, first published in December 2006. It explores how some companies in the early 21st century have used mass collaboration (also called peer production) and open-source technology, such as wikis, to be successful.
According to Tapscott, Wikinomics is based on four ideas: Openness, Peering, Sharing, and Acting Globally.
wikinomics is now making things more simple with more choice for example itunes there is no factory with an actually made product its all form downloads. which is cutting out mass productions and distributions making is easier for both the company and customer.
prosumer: is formed from the words professional or producer with the word consumer. this is thought to be a consumer with a passive role getting involved in the process, for example someone posting on youtube is inputting into the process although they can also view.

chris andersons longtail theory
The long-tail theory is about selling less of more for example having a lot of choice and selling a few of each category, having an almost infinite shop window as the choice is so wide reaching out to a wide variety of different people with different tastes. amazon sales are mostly from obscure items which cant be found in in normal high street stores which is why they are so popular supplying niches for different audiences. sites such as amazon are now much more popular than stores such as hmv due to there vast range of products which they have on offer, which means stores will now have to compete with.

Chris Anderson the creater of the long tail theory claims that those products in low demand or have a low sales volume, these can actually make a market which could rival bestsellers if the store or distributer is large enough.

individualism & community
'we express individualism but we value community'
community: a group of people living and interacting in a shared environment, sharing a similar idea or goal in which they help. community projects connote people coming together to create something. community service is when someone has done wrong and is made to do jobs which will benefit the community. community can be a physical or mental term. more to do with values and passion.
online communities
online communities are making communicating much less personal texts and comments are much more commanly used than phone calls or meeting others.
YouTube Community.
youtube can be used as dutch courage, slagging people off that arent actually there. not engaging with there community mainly hurling abuse. people dont actually know who they are talking to.
why they express themselves for indiviuality or community?
the people on youtube express themselves as an individual giving there own views and opinions or sharing something which they find amusing, this is then viewed by others forming a community as they can create videos replying to the situation or even comment on the video
what would they gain or lose from there own tv show?
youtube stars who have gained there own tv show gains popularity from the outside communities of youtube and and make the public more aware of there existance. on the other hand, the original followers and fans on youtube will feel they are now not apart of the community and feel now on a lower level than the star they were once equal to.
are the subscribers of the videos from the same country? what does this say about the community?
subsribers to the youtube community are mainly from a range of total different countries, this shows that youtube is a much more of a varied less personal community as you can talk to someone on the other side of the world who you have never met before
