individualism & community
'we express individualism but we value community'

community: a group of people living and interacting in a shared environment, sharing a similar idea or goal in which they help. community projects connote people coming together to create something. community service is when someone has done wrong and is made to do jobs which will benefit the community. community can be a physical or mental term. more to do with values and passion.

online communities

online communities are making communicating much less personal texts and comments are much more commanly used than phone calls or meeting others.

  • facebook-contacting friends/very personal, only talk to friends/promotions and events.
  • youtube-amatuer video sharing/connecting with people you dont know globally
  • twitter -older more intelectual audience with higher character limit
  • flickr- photo sharing for professionals and amatuer photgraphers
  • myspace-younger audience/ showing off profiles for recognition
  • tumblr-photo sharing and reblogging other photos/also opinions
  • lookbook-sharing fashion trends and pictures globally
  • vimeo-more proffesional aproach to youtube/filmakers looking for recognition
the difference between the community of facebook and youtube is that youtube community is less closely knit as on facebook people usually only talk to there friends yet on youtube people comment on videos with people they don't know at all. although on facebook there is no actual interaction through speech where on youtube people can express themselves via video. on facebook you are able to choose your friends and only let certain people view your profile where as on youtube it is much more open and anyone can view your videos. every video on youtube is individual yet it creates a community.

YouTube Community.

youtube can be used as dutch courage, slagging people off that arent actually there. not engaging with there community mainly hurling abuse. people dont actually know who they are talking to.

why they express themselves for indiviuality or community?
the people on youtube express themselves as an individual giving there own views and opinions or sharing something which they find amusing, this is then viewed by others forming a community as they can create videos replying to the situation or even comment on the video

what would they gain or lose from there own tv show?
youtube stars who have gained there own tv show gains popularity from the outside communities of youtube and and make the public more aware of there existance. on the other hand, the original followers and fans on youtube will feel they are now not apart of the community and feel now on a lower level than the star they were once equal to.

are the subscribers of the videos from the same country? what does this say about the community?
subsribers to the youtube community are mainly from a range of total different countries, this shows that youtube is a much more of a varied less personal community as you can talk to someone on the other side of the world who you have never met before

ambient awareness-sites like facebook and twitter

  • each bit of information is boring but overall all updates become together as a hole update on life almost like a diary.
  • an invisible dimension almost looking over life.
