The long-tail theory is about selling less of more for example having a lot of choice and selling a few of each category, having an almost infinite shop window as the choice is so wide reaching out to a wide variety of different people with different tastes. amazon sales are mostly from obscure items which cant be found in in normal high street stores which is why they are so popular supplying niches for different audiences. sites such as amazon are now much more popular than stores such as hmv due to there vast range of products which they have on offer, which means stores will now have to compete with.

Chris Anderson the creater of the long tail theory claims that those products in low demand or have a low sales volume, these can actually make a market which could rival bestsellers if the store or distributer is large enough.
